As I hope to finally move to a new town at some point next week one of the things I need to do is select a new ISP (+ phone, + TV provider). Since I moved to the U.S. I always used Optimum Online (Cablevision) and was overall satisfied with their services, however, my options now are Verizon’s FiOS or Comcast. Help me pick.

It’s music!

Earlier this morning I played a great compilation of music (both older and newer songs in a couple of different languages) that I received from a friend and it got me pumped and excited about today. It really works, listening to songs that mean something to you and give you positive outlook on work, life, future, Mondays… Some of them can also be a bit nostalgic and sad, but overall starting your day with a great soundtrack makes it all better. Great music paired with a good cup of coffee seems to be the winning combination in my book.

This worked for me so give it a try and let me know if it made your Monday mornings any easier. You have close to a week to put a CD/playlist together to listen to next Monday morning (or even sooner). I’ll be waiting to hear from you in hopes that it really made the start of a new work week a bit more enjoyable.

Furthermore, if you have other “remedies” besides music please let me know as I’m always looking for ways to make things better, easier and more fun. Also, I’m sure that there will be days when music and coffee might not be enough so please share your “secrets”.

Tonight we welcome the new year, again. As I mentioned last week, Orthodox haven’t changed their calendar and as such still celebrate New Year on January 13th. Actually, we celebrate both equally as it is nice to have two opportunities to welcome new year and party two weeks apart. Not that we really need any special reason to have fun, but we’ll take any excuse that we can get.

In order to try to show you how big tonight gets here’s a brief video from two years ago from one of the main squares in Belgrade, Serbia. This video was recorded in front of the Serbian Parliament where over 500,000 people gathered to celebrate the new year (similar events take place throughout Belgrade and other cities).

Happy new year to all who will celebrate tonight. Be safe, have fun and go easy on rakija.

Couple of hours ago a faculty member stopped by my office to chat and ask few support questions. Once all of that was done, on his way out he noticed “demotivators” I have posted on my door and started laughing. I mean, he laughed, he really enjoyed them and even asked where he could get them as well.

Well, in the spirit of laughter and the fact that it is Friday (default day of better mood) I figured I would share the ones I have in my office.
