M D, all three sides committed crimes and atrocities yet somehow the only sovereign country that got bombed and attacked where children were killed; hospitals and schools were destroyed and thousands of people lost their lives is Serbia. Croatia and Zagreb, Bosnia (Muslim part at least) and Sarajevo were never bombed, why?

I never referred to Milosevic as a hero and you shouldn't mention things like Srebrenica since all the information you have are things you read in western press (were you ever there, did you live in Bosnia?). All that said, yes, it was a horrible event where 3000 people (these numbers are supported be recent American findings of paperwork shared by Alija Izetbegovic, Muslim President) and not 8000 as was shared across the world lost their lives. Now, this doesn't make it right or even less of a crime, but there are numerous examples of atrocities committed against the other two nationalities that somehow never saw the light of day.

The issue I have lies in the facts that all three sides killed, but only one was placed on the public cross of humiliation, retaliation and shame.

Bombing is never an answer to war. We have seen it in countless wars that bombing only makes things much worse. Peacekeeping efforts need to be fully exhausted before bombs fall. However, Milosevic was not a hero. He was just as bad as anyone who rules a country and does something stupid. In his case, I say, what about Srebrenica? Your hands aren't clean in all of this. It was fine when you guys were doing the shooting, but when someone shot back it was a "Sin" and a "Crime."

The NATO bombings of Serbia in 1999 was a heinous crime.
Unfortunately, at that time we Russians were absolutely unable to defend our brothers.
Be sure, however, that we felt then and continue to feel those cowardly air strikes as being directed also right against Moscow, not only against Belgrade.
It was sheer dangerous moronism of the West to have mauled the beloved cub of Mother Russian Bear -- Serbia.
God rememberth everything.

Robyn,

that's the biggest problem I came across as well here, people either don't seem to care or just kept taking for granted whatever was served on CNN, NBC and the likes. Hopefully most of us will take it on our selves to get our information from multiple sources and sides, then draw our own conclusions and decisions.

Suzika,

I could go on and on on this topic, but I figured I should stop before I got into too many details and frustrated myself even more. It was very hard to sit here by the phone, TV and internet while not knowing if someone you know might not be there anymore after that night's raid. It was devastating to see destruction, and death, but as you said it made us all stronger. We are stubborn and proud people, and we did whatever was necessary to survive and make it through.

I remember that day. I was going to school in Switzerland at the time and the students who had family in Yugoslavia and Serbia were all waiting by the phone. A few days later there were anti-America rallies and we were told to stay inside for our safety (it was an American school). We did as we were told, but really, we wanted to join the rallies too. As I would recall the incident to friends and family who were in America, they had no idea what I was talking about. Americans just didn't care and weren't informed. Sad.
