Do you know Michael Arrington?

by Milos Topic on December 15, 2008

Most of us in the technology space have heard of Michael Arrington, the founder and grand poobah of TechCrunch, but how many of us really know this man. Let me begin by saying that I don’t know him, never met him, never spoke with him so I really can’t judge his qualities, values or personality. What I do know is that I, like millions of others read articles/posts on TechCrunch frequently and find good portion of them to be interesting and valuable.

On the other hand, over the past several months I have noticed a number of people complaining about his personality and character (or lack of) online from Twitter to several blogs. Latest major example comes from Loïc Le Meur of LeWeb. As you read Le Meur’s article you come across examples of arrogance, self-importance and ignorance. While in his post a theme of “silicon valley vs. the rest of the world” seems to emerge, this is not the first time I came across a post trashing Michael Arrington. As a matter of fact, majority of Arrington blasting posts came from the U.S. based bloggers.

So my question is, do any of you know Michael Arrington, have you ever worked with him, talked to him, if so, how would you describe him to someone who doesn’t have that first hand experience? Is he really a dbag or are some of the others jealous of his success and are looking for a way to bring him down by tarnishing his character? We all know that once your character and personality are dragged through mud professional successes begin to fade as well.

Being that I have noticed a pattern of complains, even down right insults on the web I wondered if any of them are warranted or is it simply a passing fad of select few looking to stir things up and maybe draw some attention their way?
