I have been using them for about 2 years now with several websites done for me and for other businesses and have to say that I personally haven't encountered anything negative. Once, a MySQL DB lost connections and when I called them (got a real person right away) the problem was resolved within 15 minutes. Other than that one minor technical issue I haven't had any operational or procedural concerns. Now, I might have been lucky or some of others unlucky, but as with anything in life we can each speak from our own personal experiences. I hope that your personal issue(s) with them get resolved to your satisfaction very soon. Rather than bore you with my long fight with them just ask yourself why their phone is answered by a recording that tells you what to do if you have been contacted by NCO, a collection agency. If they are above board why do they have to send so many accounts to a collection agency? Also Investigative journalist, Kelli Jack, has a suit pending against them. Kelli states: "1and1 should be shut down." And finally, the Pennsylvania Better Business Bureau has them listed as "Unsatisfactory" Read comments on the BBB why.
