Is AT&T Republican?

by Milos Topic on September 23, 2008

While arguing exaggerated charges I came across an interesting line on AT&T Wireless’ website which made no sense to me:

“REPUBLICAN PARTY OF TEXAS FAN#: 00070219″

Anyone has an explanation?

The FAN numbers let AT&T tie accounts to a corporate account for discounts.

International roaming is a pain – we’re travelling to South Africa and AT&T International Roaming there is like $1.89/min or something. We’ll be getting local South African SIM cards to use while we’re there … $0.38/min rates, much more reasonable.

Sorry – why might that be there on your account? At some point you might have told them you’re entitled to a corporate discount based on the employer you or whoever else is on the account works for and they entered the wrong FAN number on your account.

It _might_ be worth getting that corrected – different FAN numbers get different discounts. It would suck if you got it corrected and the FAN number you should have had on there has less of a discount. LOL.

Thanks for the clarification, I guess it makes sense, but still not sure how it got there. I’m entitled for a discount as a state employee (NJ), but definitely have nothing to do with the republican party. :) In any event, I think I will have that changed at some point…it just doesn’t belong there.
